Last week my class went on a scavenger hunt in Central Park. We entered at Strawberry Fields and walked near the Boat House Café (east side) where they have the giant fountain with the woman and wings on top.
Once in the park we were split into teams and the team that found the items on the list and bagged everything appropriately won. This was a perfect time to be in the park. It was a little chilly but the leave color was amazing.
Normally my class makes scavenger hunts into a race, but this time we all just took our time and made sure we found everything asked. We had to find 10 most unusual shaped leaves, 5 different textured leaves, 5 different orders and smells, 5 different kinds of seeds, 5 objects of different color, and the easiest one was finding evidence that people were in the park. My group and I collected wrappers, bottle caps and even a cigarette end that we picked up with a piece of paper.
My group and I finished the hunt first. When we returned we and had to draw a map of where we had gone and the important things we saw in the park. That is when the cold hit us. Sitting down not moving for like 20mins wasn’t the most fun.
To be honest there didn’t seem like much of a point to me when collecting the stuff asked. I just learned that even the smallest piece of trash can make a street look dirty when you take the time to look.
