1. Eligibility. THE USA WEEKEND TEEN SURVEY CONTEST (THE "CONTEST") IS OPEN TO CHILDREN IN GRADES 6 THROUGH 12 WHO ARE LEGAL U.S. RESIDENTS (EXCLUDING PUERTO RICO). ENTRY INTO THIS CONTEST CONSTITUTES YOUR ACCEPTANCE OF THESE OFFICIAL RULES. Entrants under the age of 13 must enter using the mail-in entry method. Employees of USA WEEKEND, Gannett Satellite Information Network, Inc., Key Club International, Tides Center, and YouthNOISE (collectively, "Sponsors"), and each of their respective affiliated companies, subsidiaries, and advertising and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of such employees, are not eligible. For purposes of this Contest, "immediate family members" includes spouses, parents, grandparents, siblings, children, and grandchildren.

2. Entry. The Contest begins at 12:01 a.m. (EST) on October 1, 2004 and all entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. (EST) on January 6, 2005 (the "Contest Period"). To enter, (1) answer the survey questions on the official Contest entry form available in USA WEEKEND during the Contest Period and mail your completed entry form to: Teen Survey, P.O. Box 3667, Crofton, MD 21114; or (2) log on to usaweekend.com, click on TEEN SURVEY, and complete the online survey and entry form with all required information. All parts of the entry form must be completed; incomplete, illegible, lost, late, misdirected, or postage due entries, or entries received through impermissible or illegitimate channels, are void. Must be 13 years of age or older to enter online. To enter the Contest online, you must also register with YouthNOISE and agree to the use of your personal information as described in YouthNOISE's Privacy Policy at www.youthnoise.com. If you are not already registered for YouthNOISE, you will be asked to register for free by entering your birthday, gender, state, zip code, country, and e-mail address. Limit one (1) entry per person, regardless of entry method. All mail-in entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the student whose name appears on the paper survey form, and all online entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the holder of the email account listed on the online registration form. By entering you agree to submit only your own name or email address and truthful registration information. Sponsors will not be responsible for failure to receive entries due to transmission failures or technical failures of any kind, including, without limitation, malfunctioning of any network, hardware or software, whether originating with sender or Sponsors. For purposes of this Contest, an email account holder shall mean the natural person assigned to such email account by the Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with such account. Any questions regarding the identity of an entrant, the number of entries submitted, or the owner of an email account shall be determined by Sponsors in their sole discretion, and Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify any entries by persons determined to be tampering with or abusing any aspect of the Contest. Entries become the property of Sponsors and none will be returned. A sampling of submitted surveys may be shared with local newspapers for reporting purposes.

3. Winner Selection and Notification. Four (4) winners will be chosen in a random drawing from among all eligible entries received to be held on or about February 11, 2005. Winners will be notified by telephone or email on or about March 4, 2005. Sponsors' inability to reach a winner at the telephone number or email address listed on his or her entry form may result in disqualification, and an alternate winner may be selected. Winners may waive their rights to receive prizes. Prizes are non-assignable and non-transferable. No substitutions allowed, except that prizes or individual components of prize packages are subject to availability, and Sponsors reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value. Winners are solely responsible for reporting and payment of taxes on prizes. Winners must complete an affidavit of eligibility/liability and publicity release (except where prohibited by law) which must be returned within 10 days of sender's postmark. Failure to sign and return the affidavit and release within 10 days or to comply with any term or condition of these Official Rules may result in a winner's disqualification, the forfeiture of his or her interest in the prize, and the award of the prize to a substitute winner. Prizes won by minors will be awarded to the minor's parent or legal guardian who must sign any affidavit or release that Sponsors may require. Persons traveling as guests of the First Prize Winners must also sign any affidavit or release that Sponsors may require.

4. Prizes and Odds. One (1) First Prize Winner will win a 40GB iPod (ARV: $400); Two (2) Second Prize Winners will each win a trip to USA WEEKEND's McLean, Va., offices to help edit a special report on the survey results (ARV: $1,500, which may vary depending on winners' departure locations); and one (1) Third Prize Winner will win a Canon PowerShot 4.0 Megapixel Digital Camera, Model 410 (ARV: $400). Second Prize package includes round trip airfare for two (2) from major airport nearest winner's home to Washington, D.C., and 3 nights hotel accommodations at a hotel selected by Sponsors in their sole discretion. Each Second Prize Winner must be available to travel on dates determined by Sponsors and must be accompanied by a parent, legal guardian, or other adult chaperone. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received. Sponsors make no representations or warranties concerning the appearance, safety, or performance of any prize awarded. SPONSORS MAKE NO WARRANTY, REPRESENTATION OR GUARANTEE, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, IN FACT OR IN LAW, RELATIVE TO THE PRIZES OR THEIR USE, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION ANY IMPLIED WARRANTY OF QUALITY, MERCHANTABILITY OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Sponsors will not replace any lost or stolen prize items. Prizes will be delivered at no cost to winners.

5. Participation. Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes each entrant's, and his/her parent/legal guardian's, consent to the publication of his or her name, biographical information, photograph and likeness by Sponsors in any media now known or hereafter discovered worldwide and on the World Wide Web for any commercial or promotional purpose, without limitation or further compensation. By participating, each entrant and his/her parent/legal guardian agrees to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsors. Sponsors reserve the right to disqualify persons found tampering with or otherwise abusing any aspect of this Contest as solely determined by Sponsors. In the event the Contest is compromised by non-authorized human intervention, tampering or other causes beyond the reasonable control of Sponsors which corrupts or impairs the administration, security, fairness or proper operation of the Contest, Sponsors reserve the right in their sole discretion to suspend, modify or terminate the Contest. Should the Contest be terminated prior to the stated expiration date, Sponsors reserve the right to award the prize(s) based on the entries received before the termination date. ANY ATTEMPT BY A PARTICIPANT OR ANY OTHER INDIVIDUAL TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY CONTEST WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGIMITATE OPERATION OF THE CONTEST MAY BE A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BY MADE, SPONSORS RESERVE THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.

6. Limitation of Liability. By entering the Contest, each entrant, and his/her parent/legal guardian, agrees that he or she will not under any circumstances be permitted to obtain any award for, and entrant and his/her parent/legal guardian hereby waive all rights to claim, punitive, incidental or consequential damages and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased and any other damages, other than damages for actual out-of-pocket expenses. Sponsors assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsors are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any email or entry to be received by Sponsors on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website, any combination thereof, or otherwise, including injury or damage to entrant's or any other person's computer related to or resulting from participation of downloading any materials in the Contest.

7. General Release. By entering the Contest, each entrant, and his/her parent/legal guardian, releases, discharge, indemnify and agree to hold harmless the Sponsors, and each of their respective affiliated companies, directors, trustees, officers, attorneys, successors employees, representatives, partners, assigns, and agents from any liability whatsoever for any claims, demands, causes of action, costs, injuries, obligations, losses or damages of any kind, whether direct or indirect, known or unknown, which the winner and/or the winner's heirs, executors, successors or assigns may have against Sponsors arising out of or in connection with the Contest, accessing the Contest web site, or with the acceptance, possession or use of any prize or travel to or from any prize related activity (including, without limitation, claims, costs, injuries, losses or damages related to personal injuries, death, damage to, loss or destruction of property, rights of publicity or privacy, defamation or portrayal in a false light). Winner bears all risk of loss or damage to prize after it has been delivered.

8. Construction. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of any entrant, his/her parent/legal guardian and Sponsors, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Virginia. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any such provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable, these rules shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or unenforceable provision was not contained therein.

9. Sponsors. The USA WEEKEND Teen Survey Contest is sponsored by USA WEEKEND, Gannett Satellite Information Network, Inc., Key Club International, Tides Center, and YouthNOISE, whose decisions regarding the selection of winners and all other aspects of the Contest shall be final and binding in all respects. Sponsors will not be responsible for typographical, printing or other inadvertent errors in these Official Rules or in other materials relating to the Contest, or for any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of Contest entries.
