Tina Yu
San Jose, CA

Tina, as her parents, was born in Shanghai, China, therefore she is fluent in Chinese. She moved to Singapore when she was four with her parents and then to America when she was eight. Currently she is a junior at Castilleja School, where she has excelled in her studies and spearheaded a number of community service projects within the student body. She is a leader in the school's Model United Nations Club as well as a section editor for the school's newspaper.

Her selection by school faculty to participate in this delegation to Africa was partly a consequence of the outstanding leadership she provided during the school's second annual 2004 fundraising effort to build a Save the Children "community-based" school and well in rural Ethiopia - a completed project she will visit as a member of the delegation. She serves as a volunteer on the International Measles Initiative Board of the regional Red Cross, is a member of her school swimming and water polo teams, and is thrilled to be involved with Save the Children in order to gain a deeper understanding of problems that plague our world and how individual people can help create conditions of lasting change in order to bring hope to our world.
