Jennifer "Jen" Sarja
Los Angeles, CA
Originally from New England, Jennifer has spent the past eight years writing and teaching in Sourthern California. She recently developed a writing and critical thinking program for students in grades three to twelve in Arcadia, California. The focus of her work includes developing her students' creative and analytical writing skills as well as integrating current social issues into problem-solving exercises. Jennifer has also been creating a program with educational games and puzzles to enhance the learning experiences of English language students.
Jennifer earned her M.F.A. at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts and enjoyed early success as a screenwriter. Her adaptation of Robert Cormier's young adult novel The Bumblebee Flies Anyway starred Elijah Wood and was produced in 2000. Currently, she is revising her second screenplay adaptation, which she hopes to have finished before stepping on the plane to Africa this September. When not working, Jennifer can usually be found hiking in the hills of Griffith Park with her dog Hanna. Jennifer's involvement with Save the Children is a new development in her life, but she is excited and grateful for the opportunity to share the experiences of the group via a daily internet journal. She is hopeful that the experiences of the delegation will inspire her students and others to become involved in the issues of the global community.
