Donna M. Guenther, MD
Richmond, CA

Donna is a physician, world traveler, photographer and global citizen. Board certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy/Immunology, she has practiced in various settings in the Bay area for over 25 years, including Chief of Immunology and Allergy at Children's Hospital Medical Center, Oakland, private practice, Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics UCSF and Chief of Allergy at Kaiser, Antioch. She was on the California State Board of Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health and for 16 years, served as a Trustee of Allegheny College, her alma mater.

Donna sailed with Semester At Sea as a medical consultant in Fall '87 and again in Spring 2000 as a passenger and occasional lecturer. That journey included stops in South Africa, Kenya and Tanzania She was a volunteer with the Prasad Project Eye Camps in Ganeshpuri, India where she did medical screening and photography. She has journeyed to India eight times, most recently in 2003 when she also went to Tibet to visit the clinics and family of a Tibetan doctor friend and colleague. Her photographs have been published, appeared on the UNICEF and other calendars and exhibited. In Nov. 2002, several of her images were included in the Semester At Sea exhibit at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Throughout her travels, Donna has been painfully reminded of the devastating impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic on families, children and the world economy, and she is committed to making a difference in the global AIDS epidemic through her photographs. She has been accepted into the Taking a Leap Program where she will learn useful tools for editing, exhibiting and marketing her work to raise funds for organizations, including Save the Children, which are treating patients with HIV/AIDS in Africa and India.
