Stand Together with More Than 10,000 Students

Over the past 40 years, California's school system has gone from being one of the best in the country to one of the worst. In January 2008, Education Week ranked California 46th in per-pupil spending, at nearly $1,900 below the national average.

California politicians have now proposed cutting nearly $5 billion out of the state's education budget -- the equivalent of laying off 107,000 teachers, spending $24,000 less per classroom on books, computers and supplies or increasing class sizes by as much as 35 percent.

On April 18, more than 10,000 students will stand up to say this has to stop. California cannot be allowed to balance its budget by mortgaging the academic future of its school children.

These organizations have already taken a stand by supporting our demand that politicians put students first by:
  • Rejecting across-the-board cuts that would damage our public schools
  • Protecting the Proposition 98, California’s minimum school funding law
  • Seeking alternate solutions to address the state’s budget crisis
