Description of Project*:

What do you propose doing to advocate for a better education or to improve the education provided at your school?

We want to have a rally at the steps of the capital. We feel like we can do actions in Fresno about the budget cuts but going up to Sacramento would make things seem more real. We want to rent a bus to go from Fresno State to go to Sacramento to have a rally and to lobby for better education by talking to our state officials. We already have a group of students who would be very interested in going.

Number of people expected to participate your project*: 53

MORE ABOUT YOUR PROJECT

Please answer these questions about your project. We don't want (or need) essays; just give us a paragraph or two that highlights the key points.

What is the expected outcome of your project? What do you expect to accomplish?*

We want to accomplish going to the state capitol and doing our part in fighting the budget cuts. We want to rally and lobby as much as we can.

Who are you trying to influence with your project? Why do you believe that your actions will affect his/her/their opinion? (if applicable)

We are trying to influence our state policy makers into fully funding schools. We know that a lot of other education groups have already been protesting the cuts in Sacramento, and we think that if we are another group protesting, it will be hard to ignore the fact that this is a major issue and they should listen to us.

Why is it important for this project to happen?*

This is important to us because we want to show our unity against these cuts and show that we also care about our education. We also want to be a part of something that directly effects us and do our part in the fight.

What are the necessary steps to complete your project? When will they take place? Give us an idea of your timeline.*

As soon as the grant will be awarded to us, we want to go to Sacramento. We already have a big group of students who want to go.  Then we want to recruit more students, teachers, parents, and anyone else who wants to go. Then we will need to do next is figure out the charter bus and buy everything else we need and we will be on our way.

Think about who is involved in your project and list their specific responsibilities.*

Jesse is in charge of all the finances and keeping us inside of our budget limit.  He will also keep in touch with the Right To Learn team.  Freddie is in charge of contacting all the students that want to go and also setting up appointments with our state leaders.

How will your project have a long-term and positive impact on education in California?*

We want to show other small towns that they can also go lobby in Sacramento and have a successful lobby even if it is a small amount, every little thing counts in the fight.

PROJECT BUDGET

You must submit a proposed project budget with your application. Sample budget forms are available on the Right To Learn Web site at www.RightToLearnCA.org/grants in Microsoft Excel format.

Be sure to list as many things as possible (transportation, printing/signs/flyers, food, equipment, etc.) and a specific price for each. You can look in local stores or use Google to search for companies that sell the items you need to get an idea of prices. Also, think about whether you can get items donated or at a discount from local merchants. If you need more help with this part, ask your adult ally or get in touch with us at 415-375-3096.
