A Day of Action in 5 Easy Steps

So you want to participate in the Right To Learn Day of Action on April 18 but don’t know what to do? Follow these five easy steps to collect petitions for the Governor, protesting the more than $5 billion in cuts that have been proposed for public schools and your Day of Action is sure to be a success!

Step 1:  Print out tons of copies of the petition.

Step 2:  Promote the Day of Action around your school. Make posters (or use these PDF templates) and hang them up around your school. Be sure to write or type out where you’ll have a table set up with petitions on April 18.

Step 3:  On April 18, set up a table at lunchtime and have the petition forms and lots of pens ready. If you have two or more people, have one person stay at the table and the others walk around and recruit people to sign petitions. Thank everyone who signs for their support.

Having some copies of the fact sheets and other information about the budget will be helpful for any questions you receive.

Step 4:  Take lots of pictures with your cell phone or digital camera of people signing petitions. Upload them to the RTL web site as soon as possible on April 18. For directions on how to do this, check out the RTL site the week of April 14.

Step 5:  Mail all of the petitions you have collected to Right To Learn at the address below immediately after your event. Do not mail them to Gov. Schwarzenegger’s office; we’ll deliver them together with thousands of others from across the state on May 15.
