Goals: To bring the youth of Bushwick together and give them the opportunity to express themselves! This year's arts programming at the Beacon Center for Arts and Leadership will include dance, music, fashion, film and radio. After 2 months of intense after-school program, the youth collaborate towards making change for different causes. Last year, the Beacon Dance Crew made it to the youthnoise 'Step it up' finale at Columbia University. Our cause was youth violence.
Objectives: Our objective is to use the arts as method to raise awareness for different social causes and create projects that make change. One project created by youth artists 'Nine 11 Thesaurus' was a an album speaking about issues such as security in schools, race relations, and civil rights. Ciphers Art at the Beacon gives youth professional experience and offers the chance to get their art seen and heard. The program starts on October 5th. Sign up and join the Cipher!
Causes: Media Literacy, Improving Public Schools, Hands-on Environmental Education, Education and Community Security, Alternative Education
