More information about Run To Vote:

  • Smackdown Your Vote -- Keep in mind some of the people in a WWE audience don't necessarily care to watch CNN, MSNBC or Fox News. They don't care to read the political section of a newspaper, and truth be told, probably wouldn't care to vote if no one made it a point. However, thanks to "Smackdown Your Vote," these people can learn a little something without doing anything out of the ordinary.
  • Why Vote? -- Yesterday, James wrote an interesting post about Run to Vote, a really cool project that combines athletics with voter registration. I love this idea. It's simple, it's effective and it shows that a small group of people can really be a force for change. If someone is willing to run a lap to get me to vote, I can certainly consider getting off my lazy butt to get to the polls.
  • Run to Vote -- A few years ago, John Williams ran across the nation. In the process, he decided that he could make a positive impact as a teacher. He got a job at Granville Central High School in Stem, North Carolina teaching Civics and coaching school the track team. He and his mentor teacher, Ms. Hineline, realized that with their enthusiastic students, Johns experience running cross-country, they were equipped to do something amazing.

How to Run To Vote in Your Community:

  1. Download voter registration forms from your Secretary of State -- You'll need these to register new voters. You may also want to create a pledge sheet (or banner) for people to sign, pledging to vote this November.
  2. Set a goal -- You'll be more successful if you set up a weekly goal as to the number of registrations and/or pledges you plan to get.
  3. Set up a table and get started! -- Set up a table near a busy store, park or mall. You might have to get permission first from the person who owns the space, but if you emphasize that this is a non-partisan registration drive, you'll have more success.
