YouthNoise - Play City Community Wall

We love sports, and we love our communities. We have a hard time sitting still, and we have this crazy idea that we can change the world. Play City is a fusion of these two passions -- a hyperactive need to move and a genuine desire to make a difference. www.youthnoise.com/PlayCity

I think it's so amazing how much this election has brought out the activist in so many people in such creative ways...running, biking, rallies - sports really CAN make a difference!

Does anyone else speak out in class about your causes, just to have all of the turn against you. It seems like anyone who chooses to speak out gets shunned. Is it like this everywhere or is my school just insane?

I refuse to watch this year's games... but I did love reading about the Georgian and Russian athletes embracing each other when they won their medals. So sweet.

Is anyone else a little disappointed with the Olympics so far...

The athleticism and competition has been AMAZING, but I was hoping a little more LMP-esque social activism out of everyone.

There are a lot of human rights issues that should be addressed and for the most part everyone has been silent. The Georgia/Russia conflict didn't even get all that much attention.

That's just me.

Word, ultranova. I was just reading about how in the 1963 Olympics, two winning athletes gave a "black power" salute as they accepted awards, stood barefoot to symbolize black poverty, and wore beads to remember those who had been lynched. What a powerful message; they were then banned for their courageous stance--and booed off stage. If there ever was a time to make such a statement today for the suffering of people, now is the time.

I want to see how some of the Olympic athletes use their visibility to draw attention to all the human rights abuses that are being supported by China - in Tibet, Burma/Myanmar, and Darfur (not to mention within China)

I am taking this empowerment class and it's great. We do pilates which allows for me to relax and breathe. Also we do jazz, hip-hop, hatian, and tap dancing. It's a great experiance i recommend everyone to always stay busy doing at least on type of physical activity in you life.

@rjd2

Cool to see that you made a boxing connection on PC.

Remember PC is all about sport for good-- Have you ever thought of hosting a boxing match with your local gym for a charity? Just a thought.

Keep Boxing!

Hey Karatina! I think it is awesome that you started boxing.

I have been boxing for about 3 years now (recreational) and it is a great way to let off some stress and have fun.

By my definition it is a sport. It is physical activity with a competitive edge. Rock on!

Kandee, we did that at my high school! We called it Campus Beutification. You get together with local farmers to get trees and flowers and stuff, and then get local stores to donate supplies (as tax write-offs). So everybody wins! You can even get the community involved.
