Adult obesity rates rose in 31 U.S. states last year, according to the fourth annual report by Trust for America’s Health. The report also found that about 25 million children in the U.S. are overweight or obese. Many factors, from unhealthy school lunches to lack of regular exercise, are held responsible for these statistics. In a national opinion survey, 81% of Americans believe the government should play a role in solving the obesity problem. Does the federal government have an obligation to address this crisis, or should citizens be responsible for their own well-being?
