Should Colleges Offer a "Work for Tuition" Program?
At Missouri’s College of the Ozarks, students work to pay their way through school. They don’t earn minimum wage at work-study jobs or take out loans with insanely high interest rates; instead, all students are required to work 15 hours a week on campus to pay off their entire $15,900 tuition. Jobs range from office work and grounds maintenance to cow milking and bread baking. The college has a small staff and a limited curriculum, but 95 percent of students graduate without debt. Should other schools adopt a similar model to combat student debt?
