THE HISTORY OF YOUTHNOISE
YouthNoise was launched in 2001 to provide young people with an online community for sharing and converting their ideas into action to improve the world around them. The organization has been instrumental in bringing youths, particularly those aged 13-26, together as part of an established global network built on a foundation of trust, authenticity and relevance. YouthNoise has become invaluable in giving youth not only a voice, but also a way to cooperate and incite social change.

Save the Children originally founded YouthNoise to engage teens in humanitarian aid through education, philanthropy and community service early on in their lives, with the hope that these young people would grow to be more socially-aware and active adults. YouthNoise later spun off from Save the Children in 2004 to pursue a broader mission. That mission was to engage youth around the world in building a better future through their individual passions. These passions are broad -based and include such topics as aid to children, the arts, politics, the environment, and other community and social issues.

Since its launch, YouthNoise has registered more than 113,000 youth from all fifty states and more than 170 countries, and the site receives an average of 500,000 unique visitors per month. Visits to the site average more than 10 minutes in length - more than double the industry standard for teen sites. YouthNoise regularly logs approximately 3 million page views per month and is comparable to popular teen sites like TeenPeople.com, Seventeen.com, Alloy.com and Bolt.com in terms of page views, unique visits and site activity. YouthNoise’s mission to give youth a voice and provide them with an avenue to make a difference and spark change has been validated by the thousands of emails and letters that have been sent to government representatives -- and even the White House -- by visitors and members of the site. Studies have shown that YouthNoise participation has led to a 25% increase in volunteering and a 90% increase in the global awareness of users from modestly aware to highly aware.

In June 2006, YouthNoise unveiled its redesigned site - a content rich social network for young people who care about a better world - at www.YouthNoise.com. The new YOUTH NOISE.com will feature 100% user-generated content from its members, and will allow visitors to navigate directly to their specific area of interest. By featuring only user-generated content, YouthNoise has created a media outlet for youth where they can receive news, opinions and events in a way that caters to them specifically and is devoid of gatekeepers and agendas. Future functionality of the site will also allow users to upload their own creative digital media, such as music, digital photography and movies that embrace and express their social and political views. YouthNoise will continue to make the Earth smaller by giving youth a forum to share events, culture and ideas with each other directly, as well as a platform from which they can propel their idealism into action.
