Top 10 Ways to Make Every Week "Reading is Fun Week"! Sara Schmidt ![]() "Reading is Fun Week" is a reminder of how important books are in our lives! The library has something for everyone -- whether you like romance, adventure, RPG, fantasy, drama, true crime, nonfiction, or poetry. Check out these quick, easy things to do to continue the momentum of the notion that reading is fun and support your libraries: 10. Visit the library. They aren't open to talk about; they're open to visit! Check it out. There's a bunch of resources you probably never knew existed there! 9. Volunteer at the library! Libraries typically don't have much funding. Chances are yours could use some help filing, organizing, or running the place. 8. Donate some books. You probably have some old children's books you can donate -- either to the library or to another cause. How about magazines? Newspapers? Journals? Anything that's not going to be read anymore could go to a good use with someone else. 7. Read a book to a child. By fostering a love of reading in someone else, you can help libraries and others.
Have sponsors pledge for each hour you read in a two-day period, then donate the proceeds to the library or to funding literacy programs. 5. Start a book club. Use a theme like fantasy books, comic books, or whatever kind you like. Meet once a month to discuss a book -- or host it online to get more people interested. 4. Donate to the library. They could always use a few extra dollars. 3. Don't have a library? Lobby for one. Write to your congress person, put a letter in the paper, start a petition for one -- and get a move on it! 2. Write a letter of thanks to your librarian. Think they get a lot of those? They'll love it! 1. Read a book! When was the last time you picked on up just because you wanted to?
