Before You Start
Make
Decide what kind of cookbook or poetry book you want to create -- it's easier to advertise if you have a theme.

Examples for cookbooks:

  • Children's cookbook
  • Snacks
  • Desserts
  • Junk-food favorites
  • Seasonal (summer, holiday, etc.)

Examples for Poetry Books:

  • Children's poems
  • Love poems
  • The teenage experience
  • Nature
  • Written by teens only

Decide how you will collect recipes or poems. You can:

  • Ask friends, family, and classmates for contributions
  • Post an announcement in your school newspaper
  • Send out a flyer in your school or community asking for submissions
  • Set up booths outside of community meetings or religious services asking for submissions -- if you do this, have forms for people to mail back.

Decide how the books will be put together.

  • Ask a local business the binding of the books
  • Copy and hole punch the recipes in three ring binders
  • Ask your shop teacher for other binding ideas.

Determine how you will sell the books

  • Order forms
  • Set up booths at community and/or religious events
  • At school
  • Ask adults to take them to their offices

Assign tasks

  • Collecting recipes
  • Typing the recipes, adding graphics
  • Binding
  • Advertising
  • Selling
  • Taking the money to the charity
