Before You Start

Decide what kind of cookbook or poetry book you want to create -- it's easier to advertise if you have a theme.
Examples for cookbooks:
- Children's cookbook
- Snacks
- Desserts
- Junk-food favorites
- Seasonal (summer, holiday, etc.)
Examples for Poetry Books:
- Children's poems
- Love poems
- The teenage experience
- Nature
- Written by teens only
Decide how you will collect recipes or poems. You can:
- Ask friends, family, and classmates for contributions
- Post an announcement in your school newspaper
- Send out a flyer in your school or community asking for submissions
- Set up booths outside of community meetings or religious services asking for submissions -- if you do this, have forms for people to mail back.
Decide how the books will be put together.
- Ask a local business the binding of the books
- Copy and hole punch the recipes in three ring binders
- Ask your shop teacher for other binding ideas.
Determine how you will sell the books
- Order forms
- Set up booths at community and/or religious events
- At school
- Ask adults to take them to their offices
Assign tasks
- Collecting recipes
- Typing the recipes, adding graphics
- Binding
- Advertising
- Selling
- Taking the money to the charity
