Mary Wagner, a popular, friendly girl, grew up with a single mother and a baby brother named Charlie. Her mom worked hard to support her two children, and it paid off: today she's the lead in a large law firm, and Mary and her brother are well taken care of. Since her mother could do it, Mary figures anyone can do it, and she doesn't have much tolerance for people without jobs.

A die-hard feminist, Mary doesn't trust men much, especially since her father walked out on them when she was three years old. She dates guys but usually does the breaking up in the relationship, and none have lasted for more than a few months.

Mary believes in hard work and being loyal to friends. Her best friend, Jen, thinks she's too hard on the world and boys in general, but Mary holds strong in her beliefs. She has good grades not because she's very smart but because she works very, very hard. She wants to become a lawyer like her mother, and couldn't care less if she has children of her own one day.

Favorite Song: Don't Bother
My Heroes: Oprah Winfrey
My Philosophy: If you work hard, always do your best, and don't let anything get in your way, you can do anything in life.
Issues that I Care About: Women's rights, children's issues
Ways I Volunteer: I volunteer with Jen in the after-school tutoring program for civics credit. When I was little my mom used to take us to the retirement center to volunteer but I haven't had time for that in years.
My Goals: During school, I'm going to have an apprenticeship with my mom's firm, then one at the legal aide center. After law school I'm going to open my own firm that specializes in helping women in divorce and abuse cases.
More About Me: I love music and dramatic movies, and I go to see a lot of concerts and shows when school is out or when my work is caught up.

what's the big deal?
I just don't see why Jen gets so excited about that homeless drive every year. I mean, every single fall, as soon as school starts up, she puts up these posters about "donating to the homeless" and all that. I don't know why she even bothers.
