Jennifer Deaver is the second of five daughters, so she knows something about sharing and even more about family. With a doting dad who works as a bricklayer and a proud soccer mom, she's been supported her whole life. Her family isn't rich by any means, but they do well, and she's never wanted for anything.

Jen has never had a serious boyfriend. She's a good student and an even better soccer player, and she hasn't had a lot of time to date. Her dad is also very protective, and won't let any of his daughters date until they're sixteen.

Her parents were from different worlds, and hearing their story over and over again has made her a romantic at heart. They met when her mom was attending a famous all-girl school to become a lawyer and her dad was doing an apprenticeship. Jen's grandparents forbid her mother to see "that dirty bricklayer," as they had wanted her to marry someone within her "social circle." They eloped, and her mother didn't receive any of her inheritance as a result. The pair couldn't have been happier, though, and Jen doesn't have to look any further than her own kitchen to know what a good relationship is made of.

Jen loves to take her younger sisters, Emily and Margaret, to the park and swimming. She's worked as a lifeguard every summer at the local pool and is saving up to go to school so she can be a pediatrician. Her grades are good enough for admittance and some scholarships, but she knows that medical school isn't going to come cheaply. She also knows that no matter what she does, her family will support her any way they can.

My Heroes: My mom and dad, for always doing what their hearts tell them to do; my sister Kelly, who just got her Master's while taking care of her new baby at the same time; Florence Nightingale, Mia Hamm, Oprah Winfrey, Sally Ride, Helen Keller, Susan B. Anthony.
My Philosophy: "You must be the change you wish to see in the world." Gandhi
Issues that I Care About: Hunger, Poverty, Homelessness, Healthcare, Education, Children's Issues, Tolerance
Ways I Volunteer: I volunteer at the animal shelter on Saturdays, and I do after-school tutoring for kids on days I don't have practice. Every year my family does a clothing drive for homeless families in the winter. We also sponsor a road that we clean up together once a month.
My Goals: To be a good student and soccer player, to be a doctor (probably a pediatrician), get married, be a mom someday. Live a good life and do the best I can.
More About Me: I like to sing in the choir at school, but I had to drop that for soccer. Dancing is fun too, and I go to concerts with my friend Mary as often as I can.

Fair Days
This year's end-of-the-summer fair was fantastic! The bands were really good this time. Mary's boyfriend played in one of them. I didn't know he could even play guitar! It was so funny when he got on stage. He pointed at her and yelled, "This one's for my girl!" We had such a great time.
