Born William Clark, Ace earned the only name he uses playing poker with men twice his age for cash. Ace has been homeless longer than anyone else in his squat, and for most of his life. His dad lived on the run from the police for years, wanted for a murder he didn't commit, and his mother was a college student who tried to give him up for adoption after his father had begged her not to abort him. When the police finally caught up with the two, his father told him to hide and to not trust anyone. His dad was convicted and placed on death row.
Scared and hungry, Ace looked to the first kind adult who gave him any attention for help. The man attacked him, drugging him with chloroform and taking him to his massage parlor, where Ace was forced to work as a servant and worse. He managed to escape, but his hope did not. To this day, he has terrifying nightmares, and Kat has to wake him up and shush him before anyone catches their squat beneath the bleachers. They never speak of it.
Ace is the unofficial leader of the squat. Any newcomers have to pass through him, and he's the brain behind most of their business ventures. While everyone is free to come and go as they please, they also know that it's Ace they have to report any news to.
