INTRODUCING THE MAJOR CITATIONS: GETTING AUTHORITATIVE BUSINESS LISTINGS FOR LOCAL RANKING

Fill out my online form.

The Major Citations can be considered the big brother for the Custom Local Citations service. While the Custom Local Citations focuses on niche and location relevance, The Major Citations focus on the handful of must-have citations and big data aggregators that are essential for new sites or businesses that haven’t yet had citations built.

You can consider this service a mix between getlisted.org and as a Universal Business Listings alternative.

What we do is combine submissions to big data aggregators that UBL also submits. These big data aggregators include Infogroup and Acxiom. We also create business listings in the top 20 best business listing sites, similar to what getlisted.org reports.

This combination one-two punch makes for a lean and massively authoritative local service that will help get you ranked for your major keywords. You get all the quality at a fraction of the price.

WHY USE THE BIG 3 DATA AGGREGATORS?

This is an infographic made by GetListed.org. You can see the profound effect that these large data aggregators have on all of the other citations sites.

We will submit to these three powerful and influential leaders for you. These three sites alone feed over 23 other major sites. Examples include Google Maps, Apple/Siri, AOL Local and plenty others that you heard of. Through testing we found that large aggregators like Infogroup even created Google places listing for you if one doesn’t already exist.Below is a brief description of each big data aggregator and information about their network:

INFOGROUP

infogroup-thumbnailThis is responsible for powering Google maps, MapQuest, Bing Local, Tom-Tom, Yahoo Local, AOL local and more. This is the most powerful local data aggregator of the three that we submit to.Often times Google places page will be created automatically just by submitting to the service.

ACXIOM

Another large data company, well integrated with Facebook ad targeting.Their responsible for sites like Yelp, Yellow Pages, Super Pages, Apple, Google.com and more.

FACTUAL

When compared to the other two, Factual is much smaller but it has some important partnerships with Bing, Trip Advisor, Apple and others.

It’s important to note that if your business information is incorrect with any of these three, they could overwrite what the search engines already have in their database. Also, if you’re not included in the databases of these three major providers you may not rank as easily as you could in Google Yahoo and Bing.

Important Note:We also exclude Localeze from our submission list. It is a data provider that we excluded because they charge almost $300 a year for a listing. Also, by submitting to Infogroup, Acxiom,  and Factual you get a much greater combined reach than you would with Localeze. Additionally, with this service at just 10% of the cost without the yearly subscription, it is a no-brainer.

CITATION CASE STUDY RESULTS:THE GOOD AND THE BAD

We tested many citation strategies with the following findings. If your local site is somewhat established and already ranking for some important keywords on page 2, 3, or 4 then chances are this citation service will notable effect on your search engine rankings.

The BAD news first, this service is NOT for:

  • Weak content affiliate sites.
  • Websites and businesses that don’t have a verifiable local address. You can get by with a fake address but it’s a long term risk.

Now for the GOOD news

  • If you’re a real local business, and want to rank locally – this is perfect for you.
Here I show some of my graphs from a case study last year where I tested the ranking effects of citations on local websites:

Here’s also a couple results even more recently from 2014 – a local roofing and a repair keyword.

What do you do if you come across a listing that already exists? If you already have a listing on a site that we’re targeting, we’ll added it to the report and also complete citations somewhere else. Your guarantee at least 20 new citations using the service and complete submission to the three big data aggregators as needed.

What if I have already ordered Custom-Local Citations for my site?Easy. We just consolidate the work from this report into the master list. Everything is kept in one convenient place. Since each service creates different citations, there won’t be any overlap.

What does my site need to get started? All you need is a business name, address, phone number, and a URL.

Does it Matter If I\’m Working with Multiple Locations?

Businesses like these create a separate sub-page within the main site for each location. It would be best if this page contained all of the essential local ranking such as the address, phone number, (ideally) a google maps embedded, content relevant to the area, and (ideally) a strong CTA.

How Do I Know If I Need This Service?

There is a very easy way to find out. Go to GetListed.org and put in the business information to run a check. Their percent score gives us a good idea how visible the business is within all of the major citation sources.
