From Surfrider: "Surfrider Foundation's Beach Preservation campaign is focused on protecting beaches, which are unique coastal environments with ecological, recreational and economic value.
Beaches are a public resource and should be held in the public trust. As human activities and development in coastal areas increase, the need for preservation of beaches becomes ever more apparent. "Hazards" occur when naturally dynamic coastal processes encounter static human development, and when humans interfere with marine and littoral systems.
The Surfrider Foundation is working proactively to promote conservation and responsible coastal management that avoids creation of coastal hazards or erosion problems. The Surfrider Foundation supports coastal research and science-based management of coastal resources to promote sustainable, long term planning and preservation of beach environments including public access to them. 1 Urge your senators to clean up our beaches Congress has the opportunity to help clean up contaminated beaches and to make sure sources of beach pollution are identified and addressed. Urge your senators to pass the Beach Protection Act.

2 Beach clean-ups When I was in high school, we organized beach clean-ups a few times a year. We'd get a bunch of people together, pick up trash all along a stretch of the beach, then have a picnic afterward (cleaning up after ourselves of course). It was fun and looked so much better when we were done!

Why I Support This Cause! Surfrider So I just joined a bunch of these Surfrider Foundation causes. I think the organization is great and I would love to get more involved. I have always been passionate about our beaches and I love to see people as passionate about the beaches as I am!
