Good nutrition is a vital part of being healthy and happy, yet so many of us neglect it. We're busy, so we grab fast food on our way home from school. We're strapped for cash, so we buy cheap, processed foods instead of pricier, healthier foods. Eating healthfully promotes a strong immune system and helps keep the body fit and resilient. Good nutrition also prevents health problems, such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and depression.

2 The USDA is reviewing the Child Nutrition Act Nutrition in kids are mostly up to today's parents. The children are mostly influenced by what their parents eat and feed them, so it is mainly down to what the parents know about nutrition and if they take the time to make sure that children get good nutrition and the best possible start to life.

Why I Support This Cause! Trans Fats are Trash! Recently I did a project for my Chemistry class on Trans Fats. I had to do indepth research on the processes needed to form this substance and why it is so horrible for our bodies. Trans Fats are formed through the partial hydrogenation of a perfectly healthy unsaturated oil in which it is tremendously heated and put under massive amounts of pressure. This changes the configuration of the atoms in the oil making it a feorign substance to our bodies. This is where the problem begins. Although this substance is feorign, our bodies process it normally like it would any other fatty acid. So this lard-like material is deposited on the inner walls of our coronary arteries increasing the risk for a heart attack as well as causing plenty of other problems. Trans fats have been proven to be a leading cause in other issues such as cancer (colon and breast) as well as diabetes. To avoid having this happen, we should work to have Trans fats completely eliminated from our diets. They are most commonly found in packaged foods becasue there original purpose, before manufacturers discovered they also added to the taste of their products, was to act as a preservative. Eating foods that are as close to their natural state as possible is the safest and healthiest way to go. This project, along with other research has lead me to suport the cause for improved nutrition!

We are all allowed now and again to indulge in a treat or two, but as far as fitness goes, I try to maintain a healthy enough lifestyle.
By doing a regular amount of excericse and keeping to a regular routine, you can greatly improve how your body reacts to stress, how you feel generally throughout the day and can improve your immunity to infections. Eating a relatively healthy diet can seem a little tedious at times, espcially when others around you are eating fried chicken and you are staring at your lettuce and tomato slice. however, if you can manage to stick to a healthy eating pattern, the tedious feelings at meal times can be allviated by plenty of energy and good quality of life.

Being mentally and physically healthy is impossible when you fill your body with unpronounceable chemicals & additives, mass produced fast food garbage, and sugar-soaked soft drinks. Research has consistently shown that a good healthy diet is the primary component in being mentally and physically fit. Working out like mad is pointless if you leave the gym and grab a Big Mac. Doing yoga is a waste if you finish it off with an extra large Coke. Beyond the personal, your nutrition decisions will have a direct impact on our society at large - there is a huge cost (financial and other) that results from poor eating habits. Our healthcare system is already the most expensive and least responsive in the Western world. Imagine how much could be saved if we weren't constantly treating the effects of poor dietary choices!
